Before You Go Zonking
The First Stories Follow a Specific Teaching Sequence
Certain Skills and Concepts Taught in Sequence
The first set of GoZonkers Stories are designed to teach a number of concepts to the kids in a specific sequence. This includes: Safety concepts, how to do each exercise with verbal descriptions, and the use of the bell to change exercises. These Stories must therefore be used in a specific sequence. Later stories may be used in any order.
To make it easy for you, the story sequencing is done automatically by sending you an email each day with a link taking you to the next Episode in the sequence. All you have to do is check your email, click, play, and get Zonking!
There are usually 4 or 8 Episodes in each story. ("Let's Get Zonking" has 8 Episodes.) They are developed as classic cliff hangers, with a "stay tuned to see what happens tomorrow" motif. This builds interest and anticipation, helping the kids recall important curriculum-driven program points.
Any Story or Episode you have already used may be used again at any time. In fact, many of our Teachers use each Episode twice a day - kids love the repetition. However, you may only use one new, previously unused Episode a day. You'll have to wait a day to hear the Story's newest plot development.
Three Types of Programs
To Introduce Successively More Story-driven Content, Three Types of Programs are Used:
Type 1 Program: These introduce how to:
• Perform the various exercises, with a timely in-program audio explanation for each
• A character will say, in the context of the program, the name of the new current exercise
at the right time
• Only the eight episodes of the "Let's Get Zonking" Story are Type 1
Type 2 Program: Kids are understood to know how to perform each exercise and to respond to exercise cues, so these are not repeated.
A character still says the name of each new current exercise at the time it should begin
to be used.
Type 3 Program: With the fundamentals understood, characters mention the current exercise only occasionally. This allows more natural story flow and the kids have more fun.
Additional Details You Should Know
Story Sequence: Because of the different types of Stories noted here, a specific sequence must be followed in using them. This is done automatically for you.
Safety Briefings: These precede every Episode. A long version precedes every first Episode of a Story, and the short version begins each of the following Episodes. The long version is used in every Episode of the premier Story "Let's Get Zonking."
Follow the “Zonker Leader”: It is fun for a different child to be chosen each day to lead the class in the exercises. The animated screen makes it easy for them, and leaves you to watch for safety concerns (breathing easier)
Cliff-hanger Episodes: Each Story has four (sometimes more) episodes, each designed to peak interest for the next one in the series Exercise Poster: Each Story uses an exercise poster for reference. Download the current one in the Resources section
